About Rachel Mack

I am passionate about working with refugees, both in community planning and advocacy. This past May I graduated from the Ohio State University with my Master’s in Social Work. Professionally, I desire to do community/mezzo level social work to develop self-sustaining programs that would effectively connect the refugee community with their host community as well as help the refugee community thrive using their own strengths and talents. Since beginning my social work career, refugees have always been my population of interest. I was first introduced to social work when I volunteered at a safe house for unaccompanied minor asylum-seekers in the United States. After that experience, I decided to study social work because I am passionate about working with displaced people who long to create a new home and are searching for resources to feel safe again. I am familiar and comfortable with working with various populations, and I also have experience working with survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). Specifically, I co-facilitated a support group for incarcerated, female, human trafficking survivors in addition to conducting a program evaluation of that group. Moreover, I have cared for a caseload of over twenty incarcerated individuals by providing counseling and implementing therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and utilizing a trauma-informed approach.
