About Rachel Walker

As someone who has worked in the customer service industry for 10+ years, I've certainly acquired effective communication strategies, as they are a major asset in numerous aspects my personal and professional life. When I was a paralegal for a private law firm, as well as a Case Manager for Adult Drug Court, I gained hands on experience assisting fellow counselors and clients to prepare for numerous civil/criminal cases. With my previous role as a Supported Employment Specialist, I assisted transition aged youth both in the community and in a residential facility, with job related activities, while simultaneously providing support with their mental health. In my most recent role as a Transition Counselor, I supported the military community by assisting and preparing service members for civilian life. As a daughter of a retired military veteran, I am extremely proud of my father’s service in the military and I am grateful I had the opportunity to help fellow service members navigate life’s challenges when leaving the military. With my educational background in Criminology & Criminal Justice and previous experience in nonprofit, county, state, and federal government agencies; I aspire to utilize my knowledge and passion for mental health advocacy to help those less fortunate throughout the community. As a current MSW student at UMB, I’m eager to learn how to become an effective Social Worker and continue to give back to my community.
