About Rachel Young

Through working as a temp with CCG Placement Team, I have found a niche in my career that I love. Now working in a Nursing Dementia Care Home, I have been developing my skills further by completing an NVQ 5 in Management in Health and Social Care for the Elderly and NVQ 4 in Management with a further view of completing an advance dementia course in the future. Through the support of the senior management I have been given the opportunity of progressing through the ranks from Office Manager then Business Manager at Elmcroft Care Home to a recent position of Group Business Development Manager. Including supporting two of our homes as an Interim Home Manager during the COVID pandemic. I am passionate about dementia and as well as a Dementia Champion with the Alzheimer's Society, I have involved in developing, advising as well as creating dementia areas within some of our homes from beach scenes to proposed memory shops for those with challenging behaviour. Believing in our younger generation, I also decided to take on the role of an Essex Ambassador, whereby going in to schools advising on Health and social care and the diverse career pathways that we offer. As part of my passion for dementia I have also worked in harmony with local primary schools to raise to awareness of dementia within the younger age group, helping them to understand the disease a little more and through working together seeing and watching them create new ideas on how we can all help those with this terrible disease. To add to my role further, I am now part of the judging team for the National Learning Disabilities & Autism Awards, which is to me is a great honour, recognising those staff and organisations who go above and beyond, enhancing vulnerable peoples lives and a daily basis.
