About Radhika Gune

I am a Master's graduate in Food Science and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in biotechnology. I have experience in scientific research and an interest in environmental sustainability which I intend to channel into developing sustainable solutions in the food production and regulation industry. As a biotechnology student, I was exposed to the need for sustainability in the industrial sector. I decided to study food science and technology as a master’s course to better understand the gaps in the application of sustainability when food is produced. The course enabled me to explore various aspects of the food industry - from technological advances and core food science to industrial functioning and food laws. During the course of my study, I aimed to conduct research that had sustainable benefits. As a bachelor’s student, I worked on the development of bioplastics through fermentation. This study aimed to develop a methodology to channel bio-waste from the food industry into a product that can be used by the food industry itself. For my master’s thesis, I had the opportunity to work at a National Reference Laboratory (NRL) situated in CSIR’s Central Food Technological Research Institute in Mysore. Working in an NRL gave me laboratory experience as well as an insight into the functioning of FSSAI-guided food policy in India. My stint allowed me to hone my skills as a researcher with a capacity to formulate hypotheses and successfully conduct a study. I believe that there is no science without communication and therefore, I have worked with MentorMatch to teach science concepts to tenth-grade GCSE students. At an academic level, I have communicated my studies through research papers.
