Background

About Radu Vasiu

Radu Vasiu received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania in 1982 and 1997, respectively. He is professor at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies of the Politehnica University of Timisoara. His research interests in the last years are in the area of blockchain, open data, smart cities, mobile applications, e-learning, multimedia and web technologies. Since 1993 he was involved in more than 40 international projects (Tempus, Phare, Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci, Life Long Learning, FP6, Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, etc), especially in the field of multimedia and e-learning technologies, both as coordinator or as contractor. At this moment he is coordinating the E3UDRES2 project that involves UPT in one of the 64 European Universities Alliance, as well as other 3 European projects in the area of implementing blockchain technologies in higher education for skills, competences and diplomas recognition. Between 2016 and 2023 he was the President of the Politehnica University Senate, Director of the Multimedia Research Centre from 2003 and since November 2023 he is also Director of the Institute for Digital Transformation of UPT. He acted as invited professor in different universities from UK, Finland, France, Austria, Greece, the Netherlands and USA. The publication list includes 12 books, 18 chapters in international books, 4 edited conference proceedings and more than 200 papers published in internatonal journals or presented at different international conferences. He was involved in many international cooperation projects. Currently, prof. Vasiu acts as President of the International Association for e-Science (IAFeS), that promotes at international level the use of ICT in science and technology. He is also a member of Computer Society and Communications Society, European Association for Telematics Applications (EATA), fellow of the European Distance and E-learning Network (EDEN), International Association of Science and Technology Engineers for Development (IASTED) and of the Commission for European Integration of the Romanian Academy, Timisoara branch. In 2024, professor Vasiu became a corresponding member of the Academy of Technical Sciences of Romania.
