Background
About Rae Baker
I am a recent graduate of William Jewell College, entering post-grad life with a B.A. in English and a minor in Women's Studies. After graduating college, I was ready for something full time but nothing too strenuous after I had spent four laborious years as a full time student and a part-time worker at two jobs. In my search I found a position working as a front office clerk for an orthodontic office. Though the work was sometimes more strenuous than initially expected, I often enjoyed what I did simply because I got the chance to engage with my community and learn a lot about running an office! After I spent a year in ortho, I have now moved into my desired career path, the nonprofit sector. Through my schooling, I learned to understand the world and the people around me. I was always challenged by my work, and I continuously improved my knowledge, writing, research, and public speaking skills. I also enjoyed engaging in campus activities and extracurriculars, namely the multi-cultural groups! My education taught me a lot about care and concern for the world around me, which is how I've learned about what I'm truly looking for in a career: that of helping people. Lately I have been searching for that balance between sustaining my own lifestyle and future plans and sustaining my need for fulfillment and meaning-my need for making a difference in communities that need a set of caring hands. Since working in non-profit, I’ve found a career that gives me both meaning and a challenge! My skill set: professional writing and editing skills, public speaking and personal engagement, literary and research analysis, time management, event planning, creativity, leadership and teamwork, working independently, working in groups and as a team leader, office management and maintenance.
