About Rae Reed

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has specific experience working with children and youth, international and immigrant populations and substance abuse affected individuals. I am particularly passionate about working with victims of trauma in which I have five years of experience. I am passionate about using creative outlets and narrative therapies as tools to help clients improve their symptoms. In the long term, I look forward to utilizing these techniques as tools for therapeutic change. For the past two years, I have been a Primary Therapist at Eating Recovery Center, Insight. For nine months, I was an Interim Clinical Manager in addition to a primary therapist. In this position, I worked with diverse populations including LGBTQ youth. I provided weekly family, individual and group therapy. I was trained in RO-DBT, ACT, CBT, EFFT and DBT which I used in psychotherapy, group therapy and family sessions. For three years, I worked at a residential facility for international youth with Heartland Alliance, working primarily with males ages fourteen to seventeen from countries all over the world. These youth presented with a variety of mental health needs, primarily trauma, adjustment disorders and anxiety. I used different interventions such as DBT, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Trauma Based CBT and Narrative Exposure Therapy to help clients work past the challenges they had and were experiencing and prepare for their lives in the US. I conducted individual and group therapy on a weekly basis, and completed all necessary paper work including initial assessments. I am also a storyteller and writer. I am now passionate about combining my interest in writing and storytelling with my profession through continuing to teach storytelling as a method for therapuetic change. My graduate experience is in Social Work and Child Development, where I received an MS and MSW from Erikson Institute and Loyola University. My internships were at Pillars Community Mental Health, the Infant Welfare Society and ARESTA Refugee Agency in South Africa. I worked as a Behavior Health Specialist for at Timberline Knolls, a residential treatment center. In this position, I helped teenage youth primarily dealing with eating disorders, addictions and self-harm implement mindfulness techniques and distress tolerance coping skills when they were in crisis. I believe my experience with a variety of populations prepares me for different settings and positions. Specialties: Proficient in Spanish written and verbal, creative writing, psychotherapy.
