About Raed Diab

I'm a Ph.D. candidate in Physics at the University of Florida, where I work on improving LIGO's sensitivity using new alignment and mode-matching techniques. A big part of my research involves acquiring and analyzing data to better understand and optimize the detector’s performance. I use Python, C++, SQL, and MATLAB to process and interpret that data, and make informed decisions about experimental setups. Beyond my research in optics and interferometry, I really enjoy hands-on lab work. I have experience with fine-pitch soldering, PCB assembly, and troubleshooting circuits. I'm comfortable working with lab equipment like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and power supplies, and I use LTspice regularly to simulate and analyze electronic designs. I’ve also had the chance to teach, mentor students, and collaborate across different teams, which has helped me build strong communication and problem-solving skills. I pick up new tools and workflows quickly and enjoy learning things that push me outside of my comfort zone. I’m also familiar with Git, JIRA, and Confluence for version control and documentation. I’m excited to apply my background in physics, electronics, and data analysis to challenging R&D projects—and to keep learning along the way.
