About Rafael Gomez

I am Regional Sales Director for Central & Southern Africa in Airbus Defence and Space since 2016, based in Johannesburg (South Africa).My mission is to build strategic, long term and trusted relationships with key customers and stakeholders in the region under my responsibility, being accountable and responsible for the order intake, overall strategic plan, relationship/experience and customer satisfaction management.Together with my team I develop long and short term account plans, leading to winning strategies based on company, customer, competitor knowledge and external and internal network intelligence, respecting company values and reputation.I joined Airbus in 2002 as a Systems Engineer in Getafe (Spain) for Military Aircraft, where I had the opportunity to specify, design, develop and test Integrated Avionics Systems.My first position in Sales and Marketing was in 2008 as an ISR Marketing Manager, including Bid Management. This allowed me to be close to the customer, contributing to successful campaigns in Oman, Brazil or Canada among others. I am an Aeronautical Engineer by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and this, together with my Engineering background in Airbus, has given me solid foundation to develop my career, transiting from technical to managerial positions, having the customer always at heart.In my personal life I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and I am a tireless traveller, having visited 101 countries, including 38 in Africa. I speak Spanish, English, French and Portuguese, which I regularly use with my peers and customers.
