About Rafael Rivas

I specialize in creating engaging, interdisciplinary lessons that foster student engagement, creativity, and cultural awareness. Throughout my career, I have successfully taught secondary students in Taiwan, Vietnam, and India, bringing global perspectives and diverse teaching strategies to the classroom. As a certified IB-CAS Coordinator, I have led service-learning programs, enhancing students' sense of community and responsibility through innovative digital platforms to track and showcase their work. My expertise extends beyond language instruction, as I have directed major school productions such as High School Musical and incorporated drama techniques into language teaching, helping students build confidence in both performance and communication. I am highly skilled in curriculum development, having established comprehensive ESL programs and integrated technology to support language acquisition. My approach emphasizes collaborative learning, project-based learning, and real-world applications, ensuring that students are not just learning the material, but are also developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I have led after-school programs such as "Fitness and Personal Defense," using Muay Thai drills to promote physical health and personal safety. My experience in managing extracurricular activities, from cultural events to sports, demonstrates my commitment to student development both inside and outside the classroom. Fluent in Spanish, English, and French, with a strong understanding of multicultural education, I am committed to empowering students from diverse backgrounds to reach their full potential. I thrive in dynamic, international environments and am always looking for innovative ways to inspire students to be lifelong learners.
