I have had a strong interest in working with people who want to improve themselves inspite of the odds. This has motivated me to become involved in Social Work Education and have a part in shaping the next generation of Social Workers. In my view Social Work and Social Welfare are not the same the latter being state led and dictated. My areas of interest includes trying to understand what happens when a mental health worker interacts with someone having a mental health problem/diagnosis/label; the socially excluded, and particularly those facing discrimination including specifically those due to mental health problems as well as religious affiliation and age. Challenging dominant discourses, giving voice to those who have been denied a voice is of keen interest to me.
