About Rahat Varma

As a learning experience designer, my goal is to promote critical thinking and in-depth knowledge in the fields of products, cities, and buildings. Having worked in design education, architecture, and brand strategy for 15 years, I use John Dewey's Cognitive Constructivism to develop dynamic, problem-solving-focused learning environments that encourage higher levels of student engagement. With a focus on urban contexts, my current doctoral research explores the complex interrelationships among sustainability, social justice, and design. My research interests include inclusive and equitable design, socially conscious urban planning, and the significant influence of culture and identity on the built environment. I have a strong commitment to social impact and human-centred sustainable design, and I'm always looking for new ways that design can help solve urgent societal problems. In addition, my work critically examines the ethical aspects of data's impact on consumer behaviour, design decisions, and brand perception, including issues with bias, privacy, and transparency. As a researcher and educator, I work to enable people to help develop design approaches that support social inclusion, uplift communities, and create a more just and sustainable future.
