Background
About Rahul Khandge
Meet Rahul, a dedicated and passionate Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where they are actively engaged in groundbreaking research. With a strong academic background and a profound interest in their field, Rahul is committed to advancing knowledge and contributing to the academic community. As a doctoral candidate, Rahul is focused on Materials Science research, Water related projects, Greener technology studies exploring innovative approaches to address critical issues in their field. Their research not only demonstrates a high level of intellectual curiosity but also reflects a keen understanding of the complexities within their chosen discipline.Work: NUMiX Materials:NUMiX Materials is an early-stage company focused on recovering key metallic components from diverse waste streams. We are passionate about circularizing the metal value chain through novel recovery methods specifically targeting critical minerals for energy applications, rare earth elements, and platinum group metals. As lithium recovery from battery is an important aspect, we were associated with DOE to run this specific project. Advanced Ionics:At Advanced Ionics, we were focused on making hydrogen fuel cells for greener technology and move towards carbon neutral. We focused on the electrodes/membranes used in PEM Fuel Cells. Aside from electrodes, the emphasis is on determining corrosion for various fuel cell components such as titanium, aluminum, and other metals. Hydrothermal research/work is also a part of my Advanced Ionics research/work. The Advance Ionics Research Lab also conducts various material synthesis. I have firsthand knowledge of metal anodizing.RESEARCHOrganic Solvents Nanofiltration using Covalent Organic Framework (COF) Membrane" was the topic of my Master's thesis. Successful synthesis and characterization was achieved for Covalent Organic Framework. Nano-sized solutes were rejected at a percentile higher than 90%. More research is being conducted in order to improve the permeability of the COF membrane and find an easy synthesis condition to commercialize COF. My main focus is on developing membranes for both organic solvents and water/wastewater treatment.I'm looking forward to working in an industry that relies heavily on research and development to sustain both the environment and the chemical/materials industries. Working in a lab (R&D) with water/organic solvents is something I enjoy doing. I believe the environment, water, and waste water disposal are major issues for the industry globally
