About Rahul Nirakar

With a quindecennial of experience as a fashion and lifestyle designer, researcher, and design educator, I bring a wealth of expertise in both design and academia. As a co-founder of two design labels, NIRVIKALPA and KASAV By Nirvikalpa, my commitment lies in promoting a holistic lifestyle and sustainable eco-living. Under the vision and mission of #bringvedasback, I collaborate with more than 20 craft clusters across India, focusing on Ayurveda, Sustainability, Handloom, and Handicrafts. My journey started with formal design education at NIFT Mumbai, leading me to immerse myself in the realms of handloom, handicraft, and academia. I've worked as a design researcher for the E-Kalpa project at IDC, IIT Bombay, and served as a design educator at esteemed institutions like NIFT and NID. Born into a family with a five-decade legacy in education, I began my teaching career at a remarkably young age when I was in fifth standard and have continued to teach ever since. I've also collaborated with various design organizations and mentored numerous design startups. Passionate about my roots and heritage, I continue to explore Bharatanatyam, Carnatic vocal music, Veena, and Violin. Additionally, my commitment extends to independent research in Veda-Vedanta and various areas of Indology."
