About Rainer Malmberg

While studying physical geography at the universities of Mannheim, Heidelberg and Cologne, I developed a keen interest in remote sensing and its use in investigating the impact of climate change or in security applications. After various positions as project and department manager and managing director of medium-sized companies in Germany and Switzerland, I am currently responsible for business development for geospatial solutions at IABG. This scientific knowledge is rounded off by further training in business administration at the Business School St. Gallen. My current role involves business development for space based solutions with ESA, EUSPA, the European Commission, international development banks and the private sector. My thematic focus is on energy, climate change and climate adaptation, risk management and disaster resilience as well on security applications. A central element of my work is networking and cooperation to advance Earth observation together with partners and to implement it among non-EO experts.
