Background
About Rallis Pappas
Rallis Pappas until recently held the position of Corporate Vice-President and Senior Advisor for SMT (SportsMedia Technology Corporation). Before this, he served as President of SMT Jacksonville. Earlier in 2024, he stepped down from holding any official position with SMT. SMT provides tracking, broadcast, scoring, data collection systems, statistics, analytics, and display technologies for the sports industry worldwide. In 1984, Pappas co-founded IDS (Information and Display Systems), which pioneered the first electronic graphic display boards featured at the Nabisco Grand Prix men's professional tennis tour and later used at many other sports venues. At IDS, Pappas worked closely with several major sports organizations such as the PGA TOUR, NBA, NHL, USTA, and the USGA, designing, building, and implementing systems used for data collection, such as NBA GameStats, NHL HITS, PGA TOUR SHOTLink, and GOLFX. IDS also created official scoring systems for organizations such as the PGA TOUR, NHL, NBA, U.S. Open, etc. Pappas has been involved in the creation of systems that have been used for data capture, event management, web publishing, media, broadcast, and fan enhancements at many world-class events around the globe. IDS was acquired by SMT (SportsMEDIA Technology) in 2012, expanding SMT's product portfolio and geographic footprint, and cementing the company's position as the leading provider of technology solutions to the sports industry. In his 43 years in the sports industry, Pappas and the dedicated and accomplished team at IDS and then at SMT, worked with many of the preeminent global sports organizations, broadcasters, and events until he stepped down from SMT in early 2024.From 1980 to 1984, he worked with the PGA TOUR managing the operation of the first computerized mobile scoring and display system. He later served as Director of Sales and Marketing for The Players Championship before stepping down to start IDS, LLC.A longtime resident of Atlantic Beach, Fla, and a native of Charleston, S.C, Pappas is a 1978 graduate of the College of Charleston where he earned a degree in history and played four years of tennis. He continues to serve his alma mater, previously on the President’s Advisory Council, the College’s Alumni Board, and the Foundation Board.
