About Ralph Buij

My experience shows a combination of conservation oriented research and project planning, fundraising, conservation management and project implementation. The emphasis of these projects has been on little studied West and Central African savanna and forest ecosystems. I am currently employed as avian scientist at Alterra Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Previously, I worked as coordinator of the Center for Environment and Development Studies in Cameroon for Leiden University in the Netherlands. Apart from conducting my own research, my duties included overall coordination of the research institute including design and implementation of protected areas and community based natural resource management research and conservation projects. Assignments before that included a position as conservation research coordinator for the Smithsonian Institution in Gabon and consultant for protected area management in South Africa. Specialties Applied conservation science, Africa, Asia, strategic program development and partnership development, project management with specialization in environmental conservation, protected areas management (research, monitoring, education).
