About Ralph Martins

I am a mixed-methods social scientist with a doctorate in communication. My research, centering on how communication works in democratic societies and institutions, brings together ideas and methods from communication science, rhetorical analysis, small group studies and social psychology, and political science. I am proficient in an array of quantitative and qualitative techniques, experienced in interdisciplinary social science, and adept at training and supervising students and junior scientists. I am interested in opportunities with teams working on democratic inclusion, engagement, and decision making, particularly through the lenses of civil discourse, dialogue, and deliberation. I am especially interested in work with a research emphasis or a focus on design for communication. I am a dedicated teacher and tutor, with several years of teaching experience spanning three countries. I deeply enjoy helping students from diverse backgrounds develop into skilled and critical thinkers and communicators.
