Background
About Ralph Tiner
I am a wetland ecologist with 45 years of experience mapping wetlands and have been coordinating the National Wetlands Inventory in the Northeast Region (ME-VA) for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the past 35+ years. I've also been teaching wetland identification and delineation courses at Rutgers University through their Continuing Professional Education Office since the mid-1980s. As an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts I have taught full-semester courses on that subject as well as wetland plant identification and ecology for over 20 years. I have written many publications both technical and nontechnical about wetlands including a few books. My most recent book is "Tidal Wetlands Primer - An Introduction to their Ecology, Natural History, Status, and Conservation" by UMass Press (fall of 2013) and I am currently editing a book on the use of remote sensing for mapping wetlands with Megan Lang (U.S. Dept. of Agriculture) and Vic Klemas (University of Delaware). I live in Leverett, Massachusetts with my wife, children, one dog, one cat, and two sheep.
