His auditing experience and exposure covers a variety of industries beyond shipping and the oil and gas sector. A Naval Architect by education he has experience in ship construction ship surveying and independent third party services to the offshore oil and gas industries. He started his career as a lecturer in Naval Architecture and subsequently shifted over to the industry supervising ship construction and surveying of ships in operation in The Indian Register of Shipping prior to joining DNV in 1990. He has experience as an ISM Auditor for shipping companies. And also audited many education institutions within the maritime field and outside it. He has done pioneering work in adapting Safety Management systems for process industries. He was involved in implementing risk based safety management system in Refineries in India meeting OHSAS 18001 standards. He was member of the Senior Management Group of Det Norske Veritas until its merger with Germanisher Lloyd and was responsible for market development and introducing new products and services to the Indian and Middle East customers from 1990 onwards. He is also a trustee with an NGO that serves cognitively challenged children in Chennai creating education and livelihood options for children and young adults identified as dyslexic and the autistic.
