About Rami Sharaf

Experienced Livelihood researcher with a demonstrated history of working in the development sector. Rami Sharaf pursued his master’s degree in Urban Management and Development in Rotterdam, The Netherlands where he specialized in Housing and Livelihoods. Influenced by the refugee crisis, he took Syrian Refugees to be a focus for his thesis with a case study in Tripoli, Lebanon. During his studies he was part of a search and rescue team in the Mediterranean working between Turkey and Greece as an interpreter for the refugees rescued by the Greek Guards. During the same time in Lesvos, he was an interpreter in the contentious camp of Moria. Later the same year he moved back to Egypt to start developing his refugee profile livelihood in North Africa through working as Monitoring and Evaluation assistant with an SGBV project among refugees and vulnerable Egyptians. Later on, he joined CRS (Catholic Relief Services) to work as a Livelihood Caseworker and then moved up to be a Livelihood Programme Officer ensuring adaptive implementation of technical livelihood interventions through multiple projects with different donors. He aspires to expand his knowledge on reflecting community needs and implications of the macro-scale policies, all while studying the localized regional responses for refugees in the Middle East. As of 2021, Rami joined Skill-lab for the spring period to provide support for the start-up establish it's profile in the Middle East and North Africa region. Skill lab is a promising, young and ambitious platform which aims at integrating marginalized communities into the labour market using evidence based and participatory approaches. Through a very short time, the platform has been able to support to international key partners in the field such as the ILO and HIAS.
