About Ramon Garza

My most recent job experience was as an embedded pharmacist within MultiCare Health System's (MHS) rheumatology clinics. In this position, I worked with MDs, DOs, PAs, and ARNPs to help their patients get access to and approved for medications to treat autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and other rare conditions like CNS vasculitis. I am proficient in completing prior authorizations and appeals, coordinating and completing peer-to-peers, coordinating biologic intravenous infusions while ensuring proper timing and dosing, and completing initial assessments, initial counsels, reassessments, and clinical reviews as a part of MHS Specialty Pharmacy workflow. I was a part of multiple projects including evaluating pharmacist impact in a rheumatology clinic which was funded by an American Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP) grant. Also, I helped launch an adalimumab biosimilar initiative, in which I would choose a particular biosimilar based on the patient's insurance to promote cost savings for the patient and MHS as it pertained to their value-based agreements. I built the pharmacist billing for services initiative in the rheumatology clinics based on scheduled appointments in which biologic education and resources were provided to patients referred to the pharmacist by their provider. I am extremely proud of the strong impact I made on the MHS rheumatology providers and their patients.Currently, I work for Safeway as a per diem Pharmacist and feel honored to have maintained my position with them as they were the company to give me an opportunity as a pharmacy intern when I started at UW School of Pharmacy (UWSOP).I am graduate from UWSOP with a passion for the profession and a strong desire to make a lasting impact in the communities we serve. I have leadership experience with Student National Pharmaceutical Association, serving as their Diabetes/Chronic Kidney Disease Outreach Coordinator (2019-2020) and as their Vice President (2020-2021) in consecutive years, as well as with Washington State Pharmacy Association (WSPA) as their current Ambulatory Care Academy (AmCA) UW Student Representative. On December 20, 2021, I was named a recipient of the 2022 MLK Community Service Award. On December 21, 2021, I had an article published in the WSPA AmCA Winter Newsletter regarding COVID-19 monoclonal antibody use in WA state. I am excited about the contributions I can continue to make to this expanding profession.
