Hi, I'm Randall Smith. I help organizers design and run people-powered campaigns.Some of the recent projects I've worked on include:The PowerLabs team worked with Free Press and the Team Internet coalition effort that mobilized hundreds of thousands of volunteers to take action for Net Neutrality. Volunteers held 600 meetings with members of Congress or their staff and organized 700 protests at Verizon stores in all 50 states and DC. The campaign drove one and a half million phone calls and 16 million emails to Congress. The coalition efforts resulted in legislation passed through the Senate and earned the support of 70% of the new class of members of Congress. I also provided strategic guidance for the public engagement component of a successful campaign by Free Press to pass groundbreaking legislation in New Jersey to invest $5 million to fund local news innovation.I supported Kentuckians for the Commonwealth with designing and implementing a campaign to develop a people's clean energy plan. Over 1,200 Kentuckians participated in the campaign via community conversations in each congressional district, house meetings, and a two-day conference. PowerLabs also helped design and implement a campaign to build and mobilize support for federal legislation. This work was featured in Prisms of the People: Power & Organizing in Twenty-First-Century America by Hahrie Han, Elizabeth McKenna, and Michelle Oyakawa.I supported Missouri Organizing and Voter Engagement Collaborative (MOVE) to increase the pace and depth of individual and organizational learning in deep canvass and ballot measure campaigns. PowerLabs also worked with MOVE to increase the effectiveness of staff teams.I've provided strategic guidance and coaching to Sunrise Movement for developing and implementing the organization's member recruitment and mobilization strategy since 2018. This strategy has resulted in the recruitment of tens of thousands of volunteers who have made hundreds of thousands of contacts with voters, organized thousands of protests and events, and created hundreds of local groups.I've also coached leaders facing complex challenges or seeking greater personal impact at several early-stage organizations, including Care for All, Common Horizon, Donor Organizer Hub, IfNotNow, Momentum, Movimiento Cosecha, and Showing Up for Racial Justice.
