Background
About Randy Ross
Randy Ross served for almost 9 years as Senior Equity Specialist at the New England Equity Assistance Center at Brown University. Her work focused on implementing an equity-centered school climate model, which includes the importance of distinguishing between bullying and discriminatory harassment. She has worked with numerous districts to support their implementation of agreements with the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. Previously, Randy served under the New Jersey Attorney General in the Office of Bias Crime and Community Relations, where she initiated and led “New Jersey Cares About Bullying,” a statewide, state-sponsored coalition of government and nonprofit stakeholders. She is currently a Senior Consultant at the National School Climate Center. Her primary role there is to help the NSCC provide technical assistance and professional development services to school districts wishing to address equity issues in their school climate, discipline, and bullying/harassment policies and practices. She recently wrote the School Climate Practice Brief on “Equity and School Climate.” Randy is also an Independent Consultant at Equity Lens Consulting. She is available to work directly with schools, districts, nonprofits, and other educational organizations to provide consulting and professional development on a range of civil rights and school climate concerns. Randy received her B.A. and M.A. in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from the Bank Street College of Education in New York City. She is a member of the National School Climate Council and the Steering Committee of the Social-Emotional Learning Alliance of Massachusetts (SAM). She is also Chair of the Board of the U.S. Friends of Open House, a reconciliation project for Arab and Jewish youth in Ramle, Israel.
