About Raphael Protti

In the past 15 years, I have worked in projects for the gaming industry, feature films, commercials, and episodics. I currently work mainly on commercials, with the occasional feature film. While I specialized in lighting and look development (beauty work), I have enough years under my belt to have grown a generalist skillset. Also, I have on-set survey, LIDAR scanning and reference gathering experience in feature films. Periodically, I teach evening classes at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects. I have also developed very successful visual identities for businesses, events, and individuals. I created some apparel branding and designs. I have done print and web work, although I tend to refer out for web coding work and focus on creative development. In a past life, I worked in systems administration and have experience developing and maintaining mid-sized tech-company network infrastructures. I gained this experience by working at multiple tech startups in the bay area and seeing them through intense growth in size and technology base. Eventually, I was in charge of IT at the Loomis Group, a well established full service PR and design firm with multiple locations worldwide. I aim to continue improving my craft and find more time to work on projects of my own. You can keep track of my recent endeavors on my personal website, among other things. Areas of proficiency: Look development for visual effects, LIDAR scanning and survey, Mental Ray, VRay, Maya, Zbrush, Illustrator, Photoshop, Painter, Blast Code, Render Man, After Effects, Nuke. Lighting and texturing, matte painting. Brand identity development and design execution. Team management and training experience in various fields ( IT, 3D graphics.) Teaching experience as a 3D instructor, trainer of new hires and english tutor.
