About Raphael Wolf Lane

I am a Graduate Structural Engineer at SMEC having recently graduated from RMIT University with First Class Honours. Born in Berlin, Germany I moved to Palermo, Sicily at the age of four and lived there until I was ten years old. I came to Australia in and lived in Byron Bay for four years before moving to Melbourne. I graduated high school in 2008 with a handful of awards including highest grades in Physics, Italian and French along with a Longtan Leadership and Teamwork award. I had been working occasionally with a carpenter for a couple of years and was torn between studying engineering or learning a trade. After rejecting two university offers in engineering, I decided to undertake a carpentry apprenticeship focusing on high-end residential timber-framed construction. My carpentry work inspired in me a deep curiosity about the structural principles underpinning my work. I have been pursuing this interest ever since. In 2016 I began studying Bauingenieurwesen (Civil Engineering) at the Technical University of Berlin, before transferring to RMIT in 2019. I graduated from RMIT in 2022 with First Class Honours. I have lived in Germany, Italy, Africa, Sweden and Australia and speak four languages (French only at a rudimentary level). Through my work, travel, and study I feel right at home here at SMEC, learning and working with like-minded people.
