About Raphaella Gomes

I started New Gaia to help companies move through the energy transition in a way that’s grounded, realistic, and impactful — turning existing assets into low-carbon solutions and building businesses that make sense now and in the future. I also serve on boards across the private and nonprofit sectors and work as a senior advisor to McKinsey, focusing on strategy, innovation, and energy. I’ve been on both sides of the table — as an investor and an operator. I was CEO of Floen (a joint venture between Votorantim and CPPIB), and at Raízen, I had the chance to lead major low-carbon initiatives, from second-generation ethanol to biogas. I later became CEO of the biomethane business and of Raízen Biomassa S.A, a joint venture with Sumitomo focused on biomass exports. Energy is the cornerstone of my work because I believe it sits at the heart of nearly every challenge we face today. I write, speak, serve on boards, support entrepreneurs — and stay curious, always learning. Along the way, I’ve received recognitions I never expected — like being named one of Forbes Brazil’s 100 Most Powerful Women in Agribusiness, and one of the 100 Most Influential People in Energy in Brazil — meaningful signals that we’re opening new spaces and shifting what’s possible. I believe in people. I believe in a life that leaves room for joy. And I believe our greatest achievement is what others carry forward because of us.
