Background
About Rashmi Lamba
In a career spanning over forty years, I have gained experience and recognition in film and TV production, advertising, corporate communications, film festivals and event management. A graduate in Social Communications Media, my career began in television at Doordarshan, India’s public service broadcaster. Gaining creative and production skills as Associate Director on Magic Lamp, conceptualised in association with Sesame Street, Young World and on internationally awarded documentaries on Ravi Shankar, Mother Teresa and Indian Classical Dances, I moved on as an independent producer, director with her own production companies in Mumbai, Dubai and Toronto. Commissioned by OMNI-Rogers Network, I has wrote, directed and produced 'Begumpura'(The Wives Colony), a documentary on the vexed issue of immigrant South Asian women and children living as fragmented families in Canada. Deeply committed to gender parity, I have been appointed 'India Council Lead' for the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and organised the first Global Symposium in Mumbai to present the path breaking 'GDI-Inclusion Quotient' Tool. As a principal Advisor for MAVA (Men Against Violence and Abuse)'Samabhav Travelling Film Festival' I curate and moderate film workshops to sensitise youth through the gender lens. Passionate about Film, I have played a pivotal role as Industry Director, Festival Producer and Jury Manager at leading international Film Festivals in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Toronto. In India, as 'Festival Director', I had the opportunity to launch the FICCI FLO Film Festival and Forum, themed on women empowerment and spearheaded the MAMI - Mumbai Film Mart for feature films as well as the Films Division - MIFF HUB to promote documentaries. As Agency Producer at Contract Advertising, Bates Enterprise in Mumbai and Senior Producer at Yarra VHQ, Filmworks in Dubai, I produced and directed memorable commercials and infomercials for multi-national clients. The Corporate films and tele-magazines directed by me were Awarded for Excellence by the 'International Public Relations Association'(IPRA) and 'Association for Business Communicators', India. As an Impact Producer, I have promoted films on child labour and the homeless. Actively involved as a Mentor at ‘Aspire For Her’ I am also a Senior Anchor for the recent AFH#NotAlone initiative to help support women impacted by COVID. Recently inducted as a Fellow at ‘Aspire Circle’ for Social Leadership and Impact, I am a founding member of (Women in Film & Television) WIFT Brazil and a member of WIFT Toronto.
