About Raul Pantoja

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at SMUD, I lead and manage a portfolio of hydro generation projects that support the utility's vision of delivering zero carbon energy solutions to its customers. With over a decade of experience in the hydroelectric power industry, I have developed a strong expertise in operation and maintenance, design and retrofitting, condition assessment, and dam safety of mechanical systems and infrastructure. I have successfully overseen the planning, execution, and completion of several complex and high-value projects, such as the refurbishment and rehabilitation of vertical turbines, shut-off valves, governor systems, and spillway radial gates. I have also participated in forensic studies, root cause analysis, and FERC inspections to ensure the reliability and safety of the hydro assets. In addition, I have applied the principles and standards of ISO 55001 to optimize the asset management strategies and practices for the hydro portfolio. I am passionate about delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that enhance the performance and value of SMUD's hydro generation assets.
