About Ray Colenutt

I am a highly experienced insurance professional with very wide knowledge in insurance broking at a senior level and qualified to a Diploma level with the Chartered Insurance Institute. My first job when I left school was with my father's insurance broking business "Peter Colenutt & Co Ltd" which was a traditional high street broker specialising in insuring cars, vans, motorcycles and homes. The business built up steadily over the next 15 years but was badly affected by the rise of Direct Line in the late 1980's and early 1990s. My father retired in 1992 leaving me as managing director and 50% shareowner. However, with there appearing to be no future for small high street brokers, we sold to Hill House Hammond in1994. I formed my own insurance broking business (Versatile Insurance Professionals Ltd) in 2004 with a commission income of and built this up to £1.2 million income with no outside investors, and with annual pre-tax profits exceeding for several years. Versatile Insurance specialised in small businesses and niche products which tended to be difficult to understand or too difficult to be managed by proprietary insurance broker software systems. Examples being Self Build, Property Renovation, Medical Malpractice, High Risk Travel and Land. We also specialised in difficult to place professions such as Photographers and Video Makers (we had a binder with Pen Insurance for these two professions), Tattooists, Body Piercers and Advanced Beauticians. We also developed our own quote and buy websites for many trades and professions. Versatile Insurance was sold to Partners & Ltd in 2020. I am a conscientious and hard worker with extensive skills in insurance broking management and administration. I am a highly organised and efficient individual, whose thorough and precise approach to projects has yielded excellent results. Recent achievements include the integration of Versatile Insurance into Partners & with the transfer of the staff, all aspects of the management of the business and migration from Versatile's bespoke computer system to Acturis. I now work for Anchorman Insurance Consultants Ltd as the HR and compliance manager.
