Background
About Ray Lyons
Role and responsibilities Roles held - London Ambulance Service - Double Ambulance Crew Paramedic, solo paramedic responder on a sector based Fast Response Unit (FRU), based at Westminster Ambulance Station, as a member of the Specialist Operations Response Team (SORT), as part of the Covid Critical Transfer Service (CCTS) and as a Paramedic Practice Educator (PPEd). I currently work as a Tactical Response Unit (TRU) Paramedic with London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS). As a registered practitioner, I am responsible for undertaking and documenting a comprehensive patient assessment, providing adequate care and treatment, referring, discharging or conveying patients to the most suitable place of definitive care. I work to the current HCPC standards of proficiency for Paramedics. I provide clinical and operational development of students and staff, providing high quality mentorship and education in practice. As a TRU paramedic, I am trained to have the awareness and ability to respond to Marauding Terrorist Attacks (MTA), utilising a standardised response, as part of an Ambulance Intervention Team, focusing on clinical interventions in this specific, high risk environment. This specialist capability operates at both a local and national level to provide NHS care to patients caught in complex or high-risk incidents. TRU capabilities are consistent and interoperable at the national level enabling specialist resources to be combined in response to large-scale incidents. Operational duties include, ensuring personal and/ or vehicle readiness and availability to attend cases of accident and sudden illness, urgent, special or planned patient journeys. Undertaking daily vehicle checks, checks and re-stock of equipment and supplies. Ensuring ambulance equipment is safe, maintaining and securing stocks of drugs, and promoting safe use of vehicles and clinical equipment. Maintaining regular communication with the Emergency Operations Centre regarding updates and changes to personal and/ or vehicle availability and movements, indicating availability status. I am proficient in the safe storage and use of controlled drugs as part of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) Human Medicines Regulations Schedule 17 Part 3 (8) and Patient Group Direction (PGD) drugs Diazepam, Midazolam and Tranexamic Acid. I am authorised to practise independently using guidelines. I am a registered paramedic with the HCPC. I use JRCALC as guidelines to support my practice and I have a thorough understanding of the PHECC Advanced Paramedic Clinical Practice Guidelines.
