About Raymond Burkhart

Ray holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from Claremont Graduate University and is known for his musical excellence and versatility. In addition to his work as an expert witness and forensic musicologist, he has appeared and been published internationally as an authority on the history of music for brass instruments. Ray has served on the music faculty at Pomona College, Occidental College, Glendale City College, and Pasadena City College. Ray is included in "Trumpet Greats: A Biographical Dictionary," and his book, “Brass Chamber Music in Lyceum and Chautauqua,” was praised by Yale University Press as “the most extensive study of brass chamber music in the USA during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.” As a trumpeter, he has worked with scores of noted classical and popular artists, and he can be heard on the sound tracks to numerous Hollywood motion pictures. He performs and records on the natural/baroque trumpet and has often been a featured soloist on modern trumpet. He has conducted a wide variety of orchestral music with professional, collegiate, community, and youth orchestras, in addition to conducting wind ensembles, jazz bands, early music groups, and musical theater and chamber opera productions. Ray has fulfilled many commissions for orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, brass band, and chamber ensembles. His music has been performed across the US and in Europe and Russia. His brass compositions, Christmas arrangements, and hymns have been recorded on various labels. More than 150 of his works are published by Premiere Press.
