The electric grid is undergoing its most significant transformation in a century. Electric vehicles represent both the largest new load utilities have seen in decades and a major opportunity for grid flexibility—if they can be coordinated at scale. For over 20 years, I’ve worked at the intersection of energy infrastructure, software platforms, and industry standards to make grid-interactive systems function in real-world deployments.As Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder of EVoke Systems, I lead development of a standards-based EV charging integration platform managing thousands of chargers across the United States. Our approach moves beyond traditional device control. We’ve developed OCPI+ extensions for real-time charging visibility and OpenADR 3+ for grid coordination, enabling utilities to treat EV charging as a dispatchable grid resource rather than isolated telemetry.I chair the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) FlexLoad Working Group, where I lead development of the FLICCA (Flexible Integrated Coordination & Control Architecture) framework – an industry-aligned reference architecture for interoperable coordination of flexible loads, distributed generation, and energy storage. This effort brings together 20+ utilities, ISOs, PUCs, national laboratories, technology providers, and research institutions to advance standards-based DER integration at scale while preserving reliability and customer experience.Previously, as Director of Energy Management Systems at Amzur Technologies, I led multidisciplinary teams collaborating with U.S. National Laboratories, leading universities, and private-sector partners on DER control systems, energy IoT platforms, and interoperability initiatives. Earlier in my career, I served as Executive Director on the team that drafted Florida’s State Energy Plan and held senior IT strategy and global business development roles for a Fortune 500 technology company.I’m a frequent speaker on DER standards, interoperability, and grid modernization at EPRI, SEPA, GMLC, PES, and other industry forums, and remain active in the OpenADR Alliance and emerging vehicle-grid integration standards.If you’re working on scalable DER coordination or managed charging programs, let’s talk.
