About Reagan Mitchell

I was born in Nashville, TN. I received my Bachelors of Music from Middle Tennessee State University and my Masters of Music from the University of Northern Colorado. Both of my degrees had an emphasis in Jazz Studies and encompassed the areas of composition, performance, and education. My formal training and personal passions directly challenge the current dominant educational paradigm which overemphasizes the significance of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) areas to the detriment of the arts and humanities. This merger of formal training and performance as a musician and pedagogical training as a curriculum theorist has an intrinsically interdisciplinary feel that I think will assist in the process of striking a proper balance between the STEM areas and the arts and humanities. My current research interest involves looking at the political, spatial, and aesthetic dynamics of musicians and their art. The goal I wish to achieve is a further use of the arts in curriculum as a way to add more complexity to the understanding of the work of teaching and learning.
