About Rebecca Conner

If I could give myself any job title, I think it’d have to be “Happy Problem Solver.” As a kid, I always enjoyed creating my own short films and toying with technology. Those passions led me to decide what I would study in college – Digital Media and Film. I first interned at WSIL-TV the summer after my junior year of college. I decided to take my newfound skillset back to the classroom the following year by launching Greenville College's first campus news program alongside my advisor and friends from WSIL. My hard work and tenacity during my internship at WSIL landed me a job offer at the station as soon as I graduated. Just two years later, I was promoted into an IT position. In 2014, I moved up yet again to Creative Director of News Promotions. A year after that, I was named Systems Administrator. I still carry both titles, but I’ve found my true calling in system administration. During my time as Systems Administrator at WSIL, I improved our infrastructure by overhauling 11 editing bays through upgraded computers and software. I am self-taught in FCPX so I could not only teach others, but also troubleshoot it to the entire news department. I’ve replaced multiple servers with more robust systems. In April 2017, WSIL sent me to the NAB Show in Las Vegas to evaluate and select replacements for several of our internal systems, including our playout system. The playout system I chose and implemented now saves over 18 man hours per week. As a Systems Administrator, there are bound to be stressful days, but I’m committed to always being approachable and polite. I am typically the first point of contact on support calls and I always work closely with the teams who install new systems for us. I manage the entire scale of technology at WSIL - from iPhone glitches to servers. I have two driving goals in life: learn more and be kind. I work daily to grow in each.
