Background

About Rebecca Copping

Teaching Philosophy & Professional Profile I am passionate about nurturing creativity in children and empowering them to explore, take risks, and grow through artistic expression. My teaching is based on a student-centered approach that values inquiry, fosters a growth mindset, and celebrates both the creative process and personal achievement. With over 27 years of experience in primary education—including 18 years as a Visual Arts specialist—I bring a deep understanding of how art can enrich learning and support the development of confident, curious, and capable learners. I’ve had the privilege of teaching across diverse educational settings in South Australia and Singapore, including international, independent, and public schools. My practice draws from both the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), which I’ve implemented for 19 years, and the Australian Curriculum, with over 12 years of experience. I believe that the most powerful learning happens in moments of exploration—when students are encouraged to experiment, express themselves authentically, and make connections between their inner world and the world around them. I strive to create a classroom environment where identity is honoured, creativity is celebrated, and every learner feels seen, supported, and inspired to thrive. As a collaborative educator, I value the strength of working alongside fellow art specialists and classroom teachers to integrate the arts meaningfully across the curriculum. My leadership roles in coordinating Visual Arts programs and early intervention teams for students with vision impairments have further deepened my commitment to inclusive education and reflective practice. I am a lifelong learner who actively engages in professional development to refine my craft and stay at the forefront of creative and innovative teaching. My goal is to continue creating dynamic, inclusive, and empowering art experiences that inspire learners and enrich school communities.
