About Rebecca Henzig

I am an interdisciplinary student at DePaul University, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Biological Sciences and Data Science, with an expected graduation date of June 2026. I plan to pursue graduate study in computational biology and bioinformatics. Currently, I am involved with a research project conducting genome-wide association studies of the Ecuadorian rainbow characin genus Rhoadsia to identify SNPs associated with differences in habitat elevation, in order to paint a clearer picture of its evolutionary adaptations. I have also recently begun working on a project examining gut microbiome differences in medium-sized mammals across different levels of human-altered environments. I am especially interested in the intersection of population genetics and computational approaches to cancer genomics in the context of gene therapy development, as well as the effect of microbes and pathogens on genomic integrity in regards to cancer risk.
