About Rebecca Pointer

My life is driven by a quest for social justice for vulnerable groups; this spans a career in several fields, undertaking social justice communication work and my role as an activist, including adult literacy; anti-globalisation and anti-neoliberalism; municipal service delivery; health equity; climate change; gender; and land, agriculture and food. In the last few years, I moved away from work as a communications practitioner and towards academia, especially the study of political communication, community and social movement communication strategies, and science communication, with a recent focus on ethics. I hold a PhD from Wits School of Governance. It explores networks of power and political communication in three community-based organisations in inner-city Johannesburg.
