About Regina Smith

Delivering excellent care to every patient is my priority as a healthcare provider. I love caring for people and find my sense of humor and relaxed demeanor allows patients to feel at ease, this assists in creating greater participation in shared medical-decision making. The experiences and learning opportunities I have gained in 15 years as a beside labor and delivery nurse have been many. I have held the roles of nurse educator and charge nurse, as well as created a new graduate nurse training program. The last 2 years of my Registered Nurse career was in a travel nurse position. This offered the opportunity to strengthen my skills in rapid adaptation to new environments and mastery of multiple EMR and technology systems. I have learned to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of care provision. Given the current urgent need for psychatric services, I made the decision to enroll in a doctorate program for certification as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I am confident it will benefit the patients I see by allowing the needed care in a more timely fashion. Research and quality improvement projects for best practice policy have always been a part of my role as a provider. The added education from a doctoral program will strengthen my skill to provide the best care for my patients as well as disseminating the information to colleagues. Becoming an excellent provider involves commitment to lifelong learning and understanding that every day brings challenges. Overcoming these challenges through trail and error and changing how things are done is part of learning to "practice" in the medical field. Knowing how to use technology to accomplish efficiency with documentation, email, in-basket messages, is a large part of my work experience and adaptation to new systems and changes within practice are embraced. The care I provide as a Nurse Practitioner rests on a foundation of hard work, knowledge and compassion for others; this is what I bring to work with me every day.
