About Remko Poth

I began my professional career as a trainee ship’s engineer aboard chemical tankers operated by a Dutch shipping company specializing in the transport of liquid chemicals. Over the course of 18 years working in the engine rooms of these vessels—eight of which I served as Chief Engineer—I gained hands-on experience in maritime operations and mechanical systems. Following my time at sea, I moved into the energy sector, taking on roles as Senior Operator and later Shift Leader within the operational production departments of Waste-to-Energy and Bio-Energy power plants in the Amsterdam area. This phase of my career deepened my expertise in industrial energy production and plant operations. In 2015, after a decade in power and heat generation, I joined the team of engineering experts and loss adjusters at McLarens BV (formerly Vanderwal & Joosten BV). Since then, I have applied and shared my technical knowledge to handle a wide range of technical claims for CAR/EAR, All Risks/Property, Machinery Breakdown, and Liability insurers and brokers. My work spans sectors including power generation, heavy industry, maritime, and mechanical engineering. At the request of insurers, I am also involved in risk assessments during the revision and overhaul of rotating equipment, such as steam and gas turbines.
