About Ren M.

With over two decades of experience in Risk Management and Insurance, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a range of industries from construction and municipal government to post-secondary education and insurance broking. Each chapter has brought unique challenges and learning opportunities that have shaped my approach and broadened my skill set. I joined PCL in Calgary in 2009 as a Contract and Insurance Administrator, and in 2013, I moved to Toronto to take on the role of Insurance Risk Manager. There, I led insurance claims and processes for the district, eventually stepping into the role of Manager, Finance and Commercial Risk. In that fast-paced environment, I supported a portfolio of projects exceeding $1B in value, guiding them from tender through to closeout with a focus on finance, contracts, and insurance. Today, I’m proud to serve as the Manager, Finance and Commercial Risk for PCL’s Winnipeg district. I oversee all aspects of finance and commercial risk, including contract negotiations, project-specific insurance, builders’ lien resolutions, and stakeholder engagement. I’m passionate about mentoring my team and peers, and I thrive on collaborating to find practical, forward-thinking solutions. My experience spans a wide range of project types, including high-rise residential, purpose-built rentals, major revitalization efforts, and a variety of civil projects. I’m well-versed in P3, Design-Build (progressive and standard), Stipulated Price, CM as Agent, and CM at Risk delivery models. Beyond the technical side, I’m deeply committed to building inclusive, values-driven workplaces. I’ve co-led a district Diversity & Inclusion committee, contributed to strategic planning, and helped set and track meaningful goals. I’ve also served as Chair of the RIMS Canada Council and held leadership roles with SARIMS in Calgary. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, and I’m a Chartered Insurance Professional and CPA, CMA.
