About Renan Sargiani
I am the founder and president of Instituto Edube, a Brazilian think tank dedicated to promoting evidence-based public policies and pedagogical practices, with a special focus on literacy, early childhood education, teacher training, and reducing educational inequalities. Currently, I serve as a professor in the Psychology program and as coordinator of the Specialization in Evidence-Based Literacy at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo. I am a board member of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) and an active member of international and national research networks, including the Brazilian Science for Education Network (Rede CpE), the ANPEPP Working Group on Sociocognitive and Language Development, and the European Literacy Network. My career integrates scientific research, educational leadership, and social impact. I served as General Coordinator for Cognitive Neuroscience and Linguistics at the Brazilian Ministry of Education’s Secretariat for Literacy and as Scientific President of the National Panel of Experts on Literacy, Reading, and Numeracy. I have also worked as a consultant for UNESCO and for state and municipal governments, and I was a member of the Psychology Coalition at the United Nations. I hold a Ph.D. in Educational and Developmental Psychology from the University of São Paulo (USP), with a doctoral internship at the City University of New York, and I completed three postdoctoral fellowships in the areas of neuroscience of learning, psychology, language, and literacy (USP, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and PUC-SP). I have taught at the Faculty of Education of USP and at Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul, where I also coordinated the Laboratory of Studies on Cognition, Language, and Literacy. My areas of research and practice include literacy and reading development, language and cognitive development, neuropsychological assessment, early childhood education, evidence-based pedagogical practices, curriculum design and analysis, and educational policy. I believe that education grounded in scientific evidence is one of the most powerful strategies to promote equity, sustainable development, and social transformation. My work is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4, 10, and 17) and the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) responsibility, with a focus on measurable, sustainable, and long-term impact.
