Background
About Renata Mancopes
I am currently a Scientific Associate at the University Health Network in Canada, where I focus on advancing research and clinical practices related to swallowing disorders. I began my academic and professional journey with international training in Phonoaudiology, dedicating over 20 years to clinical practice. My expertise in the field led me to a professorship at the Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil, where I specialized in teaching and conducting research on swallowing and dysphagia. During my time at the university, I had the privilege of supervising both master's and doctoral students, guiding their academic endeavors, and nurturing a passion for research. My scholarly work has contributed significantly to the body of knowledge in swallowing disorders. My career path brought me to Toronto, where I now work at the Steele Swallowing Lab within the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute—KITE, part of the University Health Network. Here, I continue to explore the complexities of swallowing, with a particular focus on individuals with lung diseases. As a researcher, I am committed to scientific associations. I am a member of the @dysphagia Research Society and @canadian Thoracic Society, where I am part of the Canadian Respiratory Health Professionals Assembly. I am also an international member of @ASHA. I am deeply committed to enhancing the quality of life for those with swallowing difficulties. My work is driven by a dedication to advancing research, fostering collaboration, and ultimately making a meaningful impact on clinical practice. I am passionate about using my expertise to contribute to the field and improve the lives of those affected by dysphagia.
