About Renaud Caous

Before embarking on a new career in IT, I was first trained as a biologist. I worked for 8 years as a scientist trying to understand and elucidate the mechanisms of cell division and cancer formation. I carried out my PhD in Regis Giet's Lab "Cytoskeleton and Cell Proliferation" at the institute of Genetics and Development of Rennes (IGDR) in France. I used Drosophila tissues and a combination of genetics, live imaging and in vitro biochemical assays to investigate how interference with microtubules (and the Microtubule Associated Proteins) affects spindle assembly, spindle orientation, chromosomes segregation and ultimately cell proliferation. I have identified an Aurora A-dependent mechanism that promotes efficient and timed CyclinB degradation for anaphase onset, independently of the Spindle Assembly Checkpoint (Nat. communications 2015). After my PhD, I joined the Gruneberg’s Lab at the University of Oxford to investigate the role of protein kinases and phosphatases in chromosomes segregation and cell division. To address this challenge, I developed a combination of molecular and cellular biology assays as well as live cell imaging and super-resolution microscopy methods. More recently, I decided to take on a new challenge in my career by switching into IT. After 3 months of training at the ENI (Ecole Nantaise d’Informatique) in Rennes, I started as a software engineer within the Capgemini group in Rennes. My role is to meet the needs of clients by developing custom softwares.
