About Renee Cavanagh

Dr. Cavanagh’s background is in Health Psychology with experience working with military personnel in both clinical and research settings. Additionally, she has clinical experience in integrating mobile health technology into clinical care. Dr. Cavanagh has worked in a variety of medical settings ranging from multidisciplinary pain clinics to primary care clinics. She has received training in Cognitive-Based Therapy (CBT), CBT for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP), CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), ACT for Chronic Pain (ACT-CP), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health-VA (REACH-VA) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). In addition to providing therapy, Dr. Cavanagh has a strong background in cognitive assessment evaluating patients for learning disabilities, cognitive impairments following a stroke, deficits related to dementia-related diseases, and the assessing the impact of psychological conditions on cognitive abilities. Dr. Cavanagh is passionate about seeking out diversity, multicultural, and intercultural trainings in order to strive towards providing care and conducting research in a manner that is sensitive to all individuals’ diversity and cultural factors. Her areas of expertise are in: Pain Psychology, Geropsychology, and Mindfulness-Based Treatments.
