About Reuben Malekar

Reuben Malekar is a Master’s degree holder specializing in global environment and sustainability policies from Radboud University in the Netherlands. He is passionate about researching and writing about the social, economic and institutional aspects of climate change and the challenges to reaching sustainable growth. As part of his master’s dissertation, he worked on an independent research project at the Luxembourg Times dwelling into its effectiveness in delivering environmental and climate content to its readers residing in the financial heart of Europe. He also interned there as a journalist, covering national and EU level news for the English daily. Reuben developed a passion for writing during his pre-master year when he started writing for Vox Magazine, contributing a regular blog and reporting on general interest news. He did his graduation in geography in his home country, India, and has extensively traveled to parts of the country working besides wildlife organizations and professionals assisting them in field research on ornithology, herpetology and mammalogy. The beginning of his nature conservation stint started as an 18-year-old working alongside wildlife captive management experts in a city zoo, which also served as a rescue and rehabilitation center for wild animals. This was also when he came in contact with Indian government, voluntary and corporate institutions working for wildlife and environment conservation. This field experience got translated into journalistic writing while pursuing a Master’s degree in Europe where he managed to get published in English, Dutch, Portuguese, German and French – the highlight of which was a critical conservation story about an endangered bat species and a feature on the preservation of green spaces in the Netherlands. Besides, he also wrote a series of exposes on the Russian oligarchy jets parked in Luxembourg amid the Ukrainian invasion and EU sanctions. Having earned his master’s degree recently, he now aspires to integrate his academic learning with his varied experiences to dedicate himself to investigate, research and write about the environment, climate change and sustainability.
