Successful museums are vibrant and thriving destinations because they use real objects, compelling experiences, and emotional stories to inspire their visitors to learn about the world around them. As an archaeologist I became fascinated with material culture - how objects tell us stories about ourselves. This passion drove me to a career that began in curatorial and collections work and continued to leadership roles in governmental and private museums. I believe in the importance of mission-driven exhibitions and public programs, but also recognize the importance of ensuring museums maintain long-term economic viability. My most challenging positions have been the most rewarding, as I have discovered that strategically resolving staffing, fiscal, and other operational issues is the best way to shape a museum’s successful future. I cannot imagine working with better colleagues than I have found in the museum field and I continue to be amazed at what empowered employees can accomplish with even moderate resources.
