About Rex Siu

Rex is an aspiring storyteller and researcher based in Sydney. A producer at ABC News, he has been a journalist and editor at Central News, the award-winning news publication at UTS Journalism. He specialises in politics, international affairs, and breaking news while also leading innovative multimedia projects, podcasts, and other creative initiatives. Alongside his role at Central News, Rex is pursuing a degree in Communication and Journalism at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). In 2023, Rex was honoured to help establish the first student-led journalism awards at UTS and is now leading the student-run newsroom as Deputy Editor, continuing to foster journalistic excellence among his peers. Rex also held the position of Assistant Chief of Staff at ABC News in the NSW newsroom, where he gained invaluable experience working in one of Australia's leading newsrooms. Beyond his editorial roles, Rex contributed to cutting-edge research as a Research Assistant at the UTS Centre for Media Transition (CMT). His work focused on the implications of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) on public-interest journalism. Prior to this, Rex assisted with a research project on information disorder, further expanding his expertise in media integrity and digital transformation. Rex is passionate about storytelling that makes a difference, blending journalism with new media to engage audiences and drive meaningful conversations.
