Professional English-Spanish interpreter and translator with over 20 years of experience in the language service industry. Nationally Certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters - CCHI. Founder and President of Thomas and Fermin LLC, supporting language access in various communities. Serving as a professional interpreter in the fields of education, healthcare, mental health, social services, government, community, religion, among others. Recognized by educators and healthcare professionals as a skilled cultural mediator. Dedicated to continuing education and professional development in the language industry. Born and raised in the lovely island of the Dominican Republic, Spanish being my mother tongue. I started my linguistic journey at the New York English Academy. During the time I lived in Europe, much of my time was devoted to the translation of several religious books from English into Spanish and Spanish into English, and became increasingly engaged with the vast diversity of cultures and languages in my travels worldwide. Prior to entering my interpreting career, I worked as an art teacher to elementary and middle school students. When I entered the interpreting profession I saw the clear connection, as interpreting is an art and a science. In the science part, it requires extensive and ongoing knowledge of the languages and cultures in order to understand the nuances. And it is an art because it requires creativity and much training and experience in order to express the meaning of the message with accuracy, transparency and the right intonation between two languages. My love for simultaneous interpretation continues to grow, together with my passion for teaching new interpreters on interpreting practices and techniques I have learned in my journey as a professional interpreter.
