About Rhys Thrower

After working for two years for a leading communications company I returned to university to compete a four year teacher training degree. After ten years as a classroom teacher, teaching key year groups with a variety of management responsibilities I took on my first headship at a small school in Cambridgeshire. After four and a half years I moved to my current post. As part of my 11 years of headship at Wittering I took the school through the academy conversion process and helped to form the Soke Education Trust. Within all of my roles I show sensitivity, determination and a desire to achieve the best outcome for all concerned with the role. I am able to deal with highly challenging and unexpected situations competently and confidently. I have strengths in being able to pull teams together to raise the quality of expectation and morale of those who I work alongside. I bring with me vast experience and skills around: People Management & HR - interviewing (safer recruitment trained), capability, performance management, improvement, CPD, future planning, capability. Financial Management - Responsible for 1.5 million budget, redundancy, financial planning and target setting, resource provision,bid funding (over 150k in additional funding in past 8 years - no unsuccessful bids), establishment of catering provision and new wraparound childcare provision. Project Management - Lead on new management including play areas, libraries, new builds, etc. Strategic Planning.Target Setting (both long and short term), evaluation and development, flexibility around planning development. Community links - Establishment of Families Centre, led school through pandemic, well-being focused, great communication with stakeholders and other relevant groups. I always relish a new challenge and have recently started radio presenting on a community radio station which is broadcast across the world taking on the Saturday morning breakfast show. 15 years of leading schools has given me a valuable range of skills and I am looking forward to utilising them in the future in new ways.
